5:30-9 p.m. * Petersen Events
Center
Pitt athletics will recognize eight people and welcome them as Awardees
of Distinction on Friday night at the annual Varsity Letter Club dinner. For
additional information on the event, contact the Panther Club (PantherClub@athletics.pitt.edu).
Spectacular Fireworks and Laser
Show
9:15 p.m. * Bigelow Blvd.
The Pitt Program Council brings back its annual fireworks and laser
show, which has been going on for more than 20 years. The show this year will
hold more meaning as the university celebrates its 225 year anniversary.
Additionally, the fireworks and laser show will be a pregame festivities, of
sorts, as it sets up Basketball on Bigelow, which is expected to begin at 10 p.m.
Basketball on Bigelow - Midnight
Madness
10 p.m. * Bigelow Blvd.
The Pitt basketball teams will play on an outdoor
floor constructed on Bigelow Boulevard between the Cathedral of Learning and
the William Pitt Union. Lights and portable bleachers will be built, along with
a video board. The teams will be introduced to the crowd and conduct several
contests and promotional activities. Admission is free and open to the public.
The event will be broadcast on ESPNU.
Check
