Video: Penn Relays 4x400 Relay Reaction

"It couldn't have been written any better than this," Head Coach Alonzo Webb shouted as he ran toward the Pitt men's 4x4 relay champions. It truly was a story book ending for Micah Murray, Carvin Nkanata, Desmond Palmer and anchor Brycen Spratling who repeated history on the 75th anniversary.

It has been 75 long years since Pittsburgh won the men's 4x4 relay with Frank Ohl, Al Ferrara, Larry Tregoning and John Woodruff. That was until Championship Saturday when Murray, Nkanata, Palmer and Spratling wrote their way into Penn Relays' history, and into the Pitt record books with a new school record of 3:03.44. In fact, the fearsome four made the feat look incredibly easy, finishing ahead of Texas by 1.69 seconds.

Murray, Nkanata and Spratling truly showcased their skills in the relay events. The three seniors along with sophomore Dustin Fuller set a new school record in the men's 4x200 meter relay event (1:22.66) early in the day on Championship Saturday.

A six-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth inning lifted the University of Pittsburgh baseball team (17-22, 9-12 ACC) past No. 20 Clemson (24-15, 12-8 ACC), 13-4, Sunday afternoon at Charles L. Cost Field at the Petersen Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Former Pitt QB Tom Savage has been quite busy leading up to this year's NFL Draft, which takes place May 8-10. Below is recent coverage featuring the former Panther and some extra goodies from our Pitt Live Wire crew.

4. Speaking of surprise players ... The stunner this draft season is a quarterback who threw 83 passes as a Rutgers sophomore in 2010, then didn't play college football in 2011 or 2012 as he transferred from Rutgers to Arizona to Pitt. "The hottest guy in the draft," Brandt of Tom Savage. How hot is he? Late last week Savage's agent, Neil Schwartz, had to tell two teams who wanted to set up a visit or meeting with the quarterback that he didn't have any time left to do so. "There are literally no days left on his calendar for him to go see any other teams," Schwartz said Saturday. The deadline for teams to host players or work them out is April 27, and by then Savage is scheduled to have either worked out for or had visits with 24 or 25 teams. That's an amazing number of workouts and/or meetings ... and when I say meetings with teams, I mean time with either the GM, coach, offensive coordinator or two or three of those. Savage is popular because he's got an above-average NFL arm right now--some are calling it the best in the draft--and showed well over the last half of last season with a bad offensive line at Pitt. He spent Friday with the Oakland staff, and that's a place he'd fit in well. Amazing to think a player so itinerant and with so little college success could be leap-frogging A.J. McCarron, Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger. But there's a good chance Savage will. Todd McShay had Houston taking Savage with the 33rd overall pick. Now there'd be a way to kick off the second day of the draft in style, with a stunner like that.

This past weekend at the Raleigh Relays, Brycen Spratling had quite the impressive anchor leg of the men's 4x400 meter relay and it is catching attention all around the nation. Take a look at the video, compliments of FloTrack.

Spratling made the outstanding kick after only a short rest period from his 800 meter performance earlier in the day. Spratling was at a clear disadvantage when he received the baton to close the race, but managed to make up for lost time with a 45.37 split, advancing from fourth to the clear winner of the relay.

The men's 4x4 team of Dustin Fuller, Micah Murray, Josh McDonald and Spratling placed first in their heat and third overall at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 3:10.24.
