The Pitt football team recently received a proclamation from the City of Pittsburgh declaring "University of Pittsburgh Panthers Football Team Day" due to the team's involvement in cleaning up Pittsburgh's hillside communities. The work was done in conjunction with the city and the Hilltop Alliance.

The Panthers assisted in cleaning up the communities of Allentown, Beltzhoover and Knoxville on March 23, 2013. According to the proclamation, "the team combed the streets and climbed steep park hillsides to remove unsightly litter and discarded items from public areas. The team collected 30 yards of debris, including 244 large bags of litter, four additional truckloads of loose wood and building material remnants and 55 abandoned tires."

The proclamation was presented by the Mayor's office over the holiday break as the entire team gathered to help wrap and organize gifts for the Christmas Day at Pitt for those in need.
