PITT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Wrestling: Matt Wilps. The redshirt senior captured his third EWL individual title at 197 pounds and was named the EWL Most Outstanding Wrestler for the second-consecutive year at last weekend's championship meet. Wilps helped the Panthers win their third-straight championship title.  (Read more).

OTHER TOP PITT WEEKLY PERFORMANCES

Men's Basketball: J.J. Moore. The junior was a perfect 8-8 from the floor and tied his career-high with 21 points and eight field goals made against DePaul on Saturday. Moore also set a new career-high with five 3-pointers. It was his seventh time this season reaching double-figure scoring and he helped the Panthers defeat DePaul 81-66. (Read more).

Tennis: Amanda Wickman. Wickman won three of her four matches this weekend, including her singles match against Rutgers which clinched the victory for the Panthers. Wickman defeated Mariam Zein of RU in three sets and gave Pitt its first win over the Scarlet Knights in program history. Wickman has a team-best 10-1 singles record, and holds an 18-4 overall record in singles and doubles combined.  (Read more).

Wrestling: Nick Bonaccorsi, Max Thomusseit and Zac Thomusseit: Along with Wilps, these three wrestlers were also crowned EWL individual champions. Bonaccorsi won the 174 weight class, while Max Thomusseit won 184. Zac Thomusseit captured the 285 pound weight clas title. The Panthers also had eight wrestlers earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships. (Read More).

Gymnastics: Alyssa Adrian. Competing in the all-around for the first time in her career, the senior scored a 39.150 which was the highest score of the night. She tied for the floor title with a 9.875 and finished second on the vault and the bars (Read More).

Track & Field: Brycen Spratling and Carvin Nkanata. Both Spratling and Nkanata earned Second-Team All-American status in the 400 meter dash this past weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championship Meet. Spratling placed 10th overall, and Nkanata finished 16th.  (Read more).

PITT PLAY OF THE WEEK

Baseball: Boo Vazquez. With the Panthers trailing Manhattan 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, pinch hitter Boo Vazquez stepped to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. The sophomore roped a bases-clearing triple to right field to give Pitt a 6-5 lead. The Panthers would retire Manhattan 1-2-3 in the ninth for the victory. (Read more).
