PITT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Baseball: Eric Hess. Hess led the Panthers to a 4-0 week with a team-high .450 batting average on eight singles and one double. Hess scored two runs, drew two walks and drove in three runs. The sophomore is batting .361 on the season with 35 hits and a team-best seven doubles.  (Read more).

OTHER TOP PITT WEEKLY PERFORMANCES

Track and Field: Brett Millar. Millar won the javelin event at the Raleigh Relays with a distance of 223-07 feet (68.21m). The junior set a personal-record with the throw, besting his previous best of 201-07 feet in which he set two weeks at the Charlotte 49er. Millar was won the javelin at both outdoor meets this season. (Read more).

Softball: Alexa Larkin. Larkin threw a complete-game shutout against DePaul in the series-opening 2-0 victory for the Panthers. Larkin gave up just two hits the entire game and did not allow a runner past second base. Larkin is now 3-1 with a 2.39 ERA in Big East action. (Read more).

Baseball: Matt Wotherspoon. Wotherspoon pitched nine innings against Towson in a 2-1, 15 inning victory. The junior allowed just five hits and struck out nine batters in the no decision. Pitt’s 15 inning marathon against Towson tied for the longest game in program history. The Panthers also went 15 innings with Juniata in 1948.  (Read more).

Track and Field: Taranisha Taylor. The freshman set personal-records in the 100 meter dash (11.83) and the 100 meter hurdles (13.99) at the Raleigh Relays. Taylor made the final in both events, finishing fifth out of 117 athletes in the 100 meter dash, and placing eighth of 92 athletes in the hurdles. (Read More).

Kourosh Ahani: Ahani wrapped up his sophomore campaign with a 34th place finish in the 100 yard butterfly at the NCAA Men’s National Championship Meet. Ahani is now back in his home country of Canada competing in the Canadian World Championship Trials. (Read more).

PITT PLAY OF THE WEEK

Baseball: With Evan Oswald on first base in the bottom of the 15th inning, Pitt’s Eric Hess hit a single to center field. As Oswald was trying advance from first to third on the play, the Tigers’ centerfielder overthrew the bag, allowing Oswald to score the game-winning run. (Read more).

ACC FACT:

The ACC ‘Top Six for Service’ is an annual award that is received by six student-athletes of every institution in the league. The award recognizes student-athletes that have demonstrated outstanding community service and community relations. A ‘Top Six for Service’ award winner is someone who is dedicated to serving others and has shown a passion for enriching the lives of others.
