PITT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Baseball: Casey Roche. Roche led the Panthers to a perfect 4-0 week, including a sweep of No. 16 Notre Dame. The Pitt right fielder batted .421 with eight hits, two homers and 12 runs batted in. Against Youngstown State he hit for the cycle and tallied an astonishing 10 RBI. Roche continues to be the catalyst for the Panthers as he leads the team in batting average (.364), runs (34), hits (48) and RBI (43). Roche was named to the Big East Honor Roll this week for his efforts. (Read more).

OTHER TOP PITT WEEKLY PERFORMANCES

Softball: Tori Nirschl. Nirschl helped the Panthers take 2-of-3 from Seton Hall last weekend as she was 5-for-11 with two homers, five RBI, five runs scored and three doubles and earned a spot on the Big East Honor Roll. The freshman is leading the team in batting average (.322), hits (39), runs (30), home runs (10) and walks (18). (Read more).

Baseball: Ethan Mildren. Mildren threw his third consecutive complete game in a series-opening 4-0 victory against Notre Dame. The Hopwood, Pa. native recorded his first shutout of the season and he allowed just three hits and two walks en route to being named the Big East Pitcher of the Week. Mildren is now 6-2 with a 2.48 ERA. (Read more).

Tennis: Karma Parbhu. The senior won both her singles and doubles matches last Friday against Carnegie Mellon in the final regular-season match of her career. She and teammate Jocelyn Lu breezed through doubles with an 8-1 victory, and Parbhu then won the No. 6 singles match in a third set tie-break, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8). The Panthers now head to the Big East Tournament. (Read more). 

Track and Field: Carvin Nkanata. Nkanata ran a career-best time of 21.03 in the 200 meter dash at the Aggie Invitational. Nkanata placed second overall but was the first collegiate finisher in the 200. He was also a part of the winning 4x400 meter relay team and he placed third in the open 400 meter dash.  (Read more).

ACC Sportsmanship Week is held in the fall, winter, and spring seasons to emphasize and promote sportsmanship among all ACC institutions.  Every sport engages by participating in a pregame handshake and special promotions throughout the week.  It is a tangible way to send a message to everyone, including our fans, that this league is unique and has the right values.
