Members of Pitt's student-athlete community collected nearly $3,000 in donations for the Fallen Heroes Fund during the Panthers' spring football game at Heinz Field, April 11.

The fund has been established by the Fraternal Order of Police to support the families of the three officers slain in the line of duty Saturday, April 4, in Stanton Heights - Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo.

The participating student-athletes included John Bachman (football), Erin Meehan (women's swimming), Ruth Seiffert (women's swimming), Allie Horvath (women's swimming) and Stephanie Ross (volleyball).

"Our student-athletes are always tremendous in answering the call to assist with a worthy cause," Pitt athletic director Steve Pederson said. "This particular group did not hesitate in giving up a Saturday to help the Fallen Heroes Fund. Their efforts and energy are greatly appreciated."
