Pitt's All-Big East Academic All-Star List

PITTSBURGH--One hundred eight University of Pittsburgh student-athletes earned Big East Academic All-Star honors for their outstanding academic and athletic performance during the 2008-09 academic year, the conference announced on July 27th. Honorees must be athletic letterwinners who have posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters of academic work.
Fifty percent of this year's recipients are repeat Big East Academic All-Stars from previous seasons and 10 student-athletes have earned their fourth straight nomination. The 10 Pitt student-athletes who earned their fourth consecutive Big East Academic All-Star honor include: Erin Meehan (West Chester, Pa.) and Ruth Seiffert (Boothwyn, Pa.) of the women's swimming and diving team, William Conklyn (Stroudsburg, Pa.) and Andrew Kyrejko (West Orange, N.J.) of the men's swimming and diving team, Kylie Veverka (North Huntingdon, Pa.) of women's soccer, Kristy Borza (Beaver, Pa.) of women's tennis and Jessica Moses (North Olmstead, Ohio), Stephanie Ross (Dayton, Ohio) and Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich.) of women's volleyball.
Both the women's and men's swimming and diving teams earned the most nominations for the Big East All-Academic Team with 18 and 13 nominations respectively.
The 2008-09 University of Pittsburgh Big East Academic All-Star list includes all varsity sports with the exception of football, which is named separately. Pitt competes in the Eastern Wrestling League and East Atlantic Gymnastics League.

*3 members of the Gymnastics Team were named All-American Scholar Athletes by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women
*7 members of the Gymnastics Team were named to the EAGL All-Academic Team by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastic Coaches for Women
*2 members of the 2008 Women's softball Team were named National Fast Pitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athletes
*2 members of the Women's Tennis Team were named ITA All-Academic honorees for the 2008 Women's Tennis ITA All-Academic Team
*19 members of the Wrestling Team were named to the EWL Academic Honor Roll
*Jonathan Buchanan (Men's Swimming) and Kristy Borza (Tennis) earned the 2008-09 Big East Institutional Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award
*Conor Lee was named the Big East Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year
*Conor Lee of Football was named to the 2007-08 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Team
*Kelly Campbell and Meagan Dooley of Volleyball were named to the 2008 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team
*25 members of the Pitt Band achieved a 3.0 term GPA or above
*43 Cheerleaders & Dance Team members achieved a 3.0 term GPA or above
