PITT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Men’s Soccer: Kevin Angulo. Freshman striker Kevin Angulo scored two goals in a one minute span to lead the Panthers past Duquesne 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in an exhibition match. The goals came at the 32 and 33 minute mark of the first half. Collectively, Pitt only allowed Duquesne to register three shots the entire game. The Panthers open their regular season this coming Saturday at home against Presbyterian. (Read More).
OTHER TOP WEEKLY PERFORMERS:
Women’s Soccer: Roosa Arvas. Arvas was named to the Steel City Classic All-Tournament Team after tallying a goal and an assist in Pitt’s 3-0 victory against Akron to open the season. Her goal in the eighth minute proved to be the game-winner and she also registered an assist on Pitt’s second goal from a corner kick. (Read More).
Volleyball: Mariah Bell. In Pitt’s final preseason tune up, freshman Mariah Bell led the Blue team past the Gold team in an intrasquad scrimmage by tallying 12 kills and 22 attempts (.455 clip). The outside hitter from Moorpark, Calif., helped Blue win the first two sets (25-19, 25-11) before Gold claimed the final set (25-22). The Panthers open the regular season at the Bowling Green Tournament this weekend where they will face the host Falcons, Middle Tennessee State and Dayton. (Read More).
