PITT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Volleyball: Jasmine Dittrich. Dittrich was named Tournament Most Valuable Player after she tallied 26 kills, eight blocks and hit at a .309 clip in Pitt’s three victories this weekend in the Pitt Panthers Invitational. (Read more).
OTHER TOP PITT WEEKLY PERFORMANCES
Volleyball: Alexa Campbell. Recorded 24 kills and a team-high 27 digs at the Pitt Panthers Invitational. Against Howard, four of her nine kills came in the third set with Panthers trailing 18-16. That string sparked the comeback which sealed the three set victory. (Read more).
Volleyball: Kate Yeazel. Set a career-high with 14 kills against Butler in the championship game of the Pitt Panthers Invitational. For the weekend, Yeazel recorded 22 kills on 31 attempts, good for a .645 hitting percentage. (Read more).
Women’s Soccer: Abby Baldys. A senior defender, Baldys played two excellent games for the Panthers this weekend at the WVU 90 Minute Classic in Morgantown. She was singled out by coach Greg Miller for her outstanding effort. (Read more).
Men’s Soccer: Defense. The Panthers defense kept regionally-ranked Saint Francis, Pa. scoreless in the second half and two overtime periods, despite being down a player. After the offense scored the first goal on SFU in an eight-game span, the backline and goalkeeper Lee Johnston turned away six shots and numerous close calls to earn its second tie in three games. PITT PLAY OF THE WEEK
Volleyball: With the third set tied at 26-26 in the championship match of the Pitt Panthers Invitational against Butler, Alexa Campbell registered back-to-back kills to seal the tournament title for the Panthers. (Read more).
PITT PANTHER WEEKLY NOTES
*Pitt’s cross country teams both placed second at the Duquesne Duals on Saturday, Sept. 1. Ben Kisley paced the Panthers men’s squad with a ninth place finish (26:34) while Amber McAteer led the women with a seventh place finish (19:03). (Read more).
*The Pitt volleyball team did not drop a set the entire weekend, recording three-consecutive three set sweeps.
