Sept. 10, 2008
Previously Effective Legislation (no longer effective as of August 1, 2008):
All recruiting coordination functions (except routine clerical tasks) must be performed by the head coach or one or more of the assistant coaches who count toward the numerical limitations. Such functions include:
· Activities involving athletics evaluation and/or selection of prospects;
· Making telephone calls to or receiving telephone calls from prospective student-athletes (or prospective student-athletes' parents, legal guardians or coaches); and
· Preparation of general recruiting correspondence (including electronic correspondence) to prospective student-athletes (or prospective student-athletes' parents or legal guardians).
New Legislation (effective August 1, 2008)
Recruiting coordination functions that are restricted to "countable" coaches will be:
· Activities involving athletics evaluation and/or selection of prospects;
· Making telephone calls to or receiving telephone calls from prospective student-athletes who have not signed a NLI (or prospective student-athletes' parents, legal guardians or coaches)
Changes to Legislation:
· Any institutional staff member may make and receive calls from a recruit who has signed a NLI with Pitt.
· Any institutional staff member may prepare permissible general correspondence to a recruit (within already established time limitations applicable to recruiting materials).
