PITT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Football: Isaac Bennett. Bennett had a career night against Old Dominion in a 35-24 victory on Saturday. Bennett set career-highs with 30 carries for 240 yards and three touchdowns. Bennett is now leading the team in rushing with 450 yards (75.0/game) and five touchdowns. At 4-2, a win on Saturday against Navy would give the Panthers their best start since 2009. (Read More).
OTHER TOP WEEKLY PERFORMERS:
Cross Country: Cullen Davis. Davis finished fourth in the White Division at Pre-Nationals on Saturday, running a time of 24:48.85 which was nearly two minutes faster than his previous best time of the season. Davis and the Panthers are off until Nov. 1 when they race at the ACC Championship Meet. (Read More).
Volleyball: Jessica Wynn. Wynn tallied 22 kills and added 16 digs during a 1-1 weekend for the Panthers. In a 3-0 sweep of Boston College, she had eight kills and seven digs. Against Syracuse, Wynn notched 14 kills while hitting .333 and just missed a double-double with nine digs. Wynn is the team leader in kills with 244 and also has the second most digs with 174. Swimming and Diving: Dani des Tombe. The junior won four events during the team's opening meet of the 2013-14 campaign at St. Bonaventure. des Tombe was a part of the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams which each took first place, and she also placed first in the individual 200 and 500 yard freestyle events. The women's 200 freestyle relay team set a Reilly Pool record with a time of 1:36.45. The women's team beat the Bonnies in dominant fashion, 225-75. (Read More).
Football: Kevin Weatherspoon. The junior wide receiver had a 56-yard punt return in the middle of the second quarter which brought the ball down to the 12-yard line against Old Dominion. At the time of the return, Pitt was trailing 10-7 and his return helped set up a 3-yard score as Pitt went on to put up 21 points in the second quarter. The punt return was the longest return since Nov. 16, 2006 when Darrelle Revis went 73 yards for a touchdown against West Virginia. (Read More).
