PITTSBURGH—Twelve student-athletes from the University of Pittsburgh visited Veterans Hospital of Pittsburgh on Thursday, Nov. 10 to join the Marine Corps birthday celebration.
The Panthers attended the Veterans Hospital event to show support and to honor those who have fought for our country. They handed out cards and flags in respect of Veteran's Day and visited with the in-patients, while celebrating with the out-patients.
“It was a great event for the student-athletes to attend, not only because it was well organized but because veterans hospital is on our campus and it gave us an opportunity to show our appreciation for their service,” said Kelsey Herbst, a member of the swimming and diving team.
Herbst was joined by John Cordier (men’s soccer), Claar Ennis (track and field), Ronnie Garbinsky (wrestling), Madison Gritsch (women’s soccer), Michelle Magyar (track and field), Daniel Mark (men’s soccer), Ryan McKenzie (men’s soccer), Chu Chu Onyeukwu (men’s soccer), Dan Prete (men’s soccer), Morgan Sharick (women’s soccer) and Eric Walker (men’s soccer) at the event.
“We heard a lot of positive feedback from the veterans about how energetic we were while visiting,” Herbst added. “I look forward to returning for another event in the future.”
