PITT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Men’s Basketball: Talib Zanna. One of Pitt’s most improved players, Zanna averaged 14.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, shot 50 percent (7-14) from the floor and 73.7 percent (14-19) from the free throw line in Pitt’s two wins over Howard and Detroit. Against Detroit, he totaled 16 points, hit a career-high 10-11 free throws and grabbed five rebounds in 30 minutes. He also scored 12 points with eight rebounds vs. Howard. (Read more). 

OTHER TOP PITT WEEKLY PERFORMANCES
Football: Ray Graham. Graham rushed for 94 yards and two scores to help the Panthers become bowl eligible with a 27-3 victory at South Florida. In that game, Graham went over the 1,000-yard plateau for the first time in his career. (Read more).

Women’s Basketball: Brianna Kiesel. Kiesel averaged 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the Panthers. The point guard shot 53.6 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc (5-10). Kiesel scored a career-high 27 points versus Longwood on Nov. 26, converting 9-15 field goals and adding six rebounds. She had a team-high 17 points at Lafayette on Dec. 1, connecting on a season-high three 3-pointers. She was named to the Big East Honor Roll for her efforts.(Read more).

Men’s Basketball: James Robinson: Robinson was named the Big East Rookie of the Week for helping the Panthers to a 2-0 week. Robinson averaged 11 points and seven assists in 32 minutes of action, while shooting 60 percent from the floor (9-15). He tallied a career-best eight assists against Howard.

Men’s Swimming: Jon Lierley. Lierley swam the fastest time of any Pitt Panther this season in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:48.42 at the AT&T Winter Nationals in Texas. Lierley placed 19th in the event. (Read more).

PITT PLAY OF THE WEEK
Wrestling: Zac Thomusseit. In the third overtime, with Pitt trailing in the team score by a 16-12 mark, the redshirt senior heavyweight pinned Virginia Tech’s David Marone to give the Panthers six team points and their first victory of the season. (Read more).
