PITT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:

Swimming and Diving: Kaleigh Ritter. Ritter broke the 1,000-yard and 1,650-yard freestyle school records at the AT&T Winter Nationals this past weekend. During the 1,650-yard freestyle, Ritter swam her first 1,000 yards in a time of 9:51.67 which established a new best mark at Pitt. She finished the race in 16:15.02, which was also the fastest time in school history while finishing ninth overall. Olympic Gold Medalist Katie Ledecky finished just one minute ahead of Ritter in first place. (Read More).

OTHER TOP WEEKLY PERFORMERS:

Women’s Basketball: Bubbles Anderson. The 6-foot-11 redshirt freshman averaged 13 points, five rebounds and 3.5 blocks for the Panthers last week, including scoring a career-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting at Wagner. For the week, she was 10-of-16 from the floor (62.5 percent) and is averaging 8.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game on the season. (Read More).

Track and Field: Andrew Wells. Wells broke the Pitt school record in the Weight Throw this past weekend at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala with a distance of 19.20m (63-00.00 feet). He bested the previous top mark of 18.58m which was set by AJ Kielinski in 2008. Wells placed fourth overall and he now owns three schools records (Hammer Throw, Discus and Weight Throw). Men’s Basketball: Talib Zanna. Zanna averaged 14 points, 7.5 rebounds and shot 58 percent from the floor (11-19) in a 2-0 week for the Panthers. In the Big Ten/ACC Challenge against Penn State, Zanna recorded his ninth career double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in a 78-69 victory. He then had 12 points and five boards against Loyola Marymount as the Panthers moved to 9-0 with an 85-68 victory. The senior is averaging 13 points and seven rebounds per game this season. Track & FIeld: Julia Koloski. Koloski won both the long jump and triple jump at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala this past weekend. In the long jump, Koloski posted a distance of 5.73m (18-09.75 feet), and then went 12.66m (41-06.05 feet) in the triple jump. She also finished third in the 200 meter dash and fourth in the 60 meter dash. (Read More).

Wrestling: Shelton Mack. Mack won a pair of bouts this past weekend at both Maryland and Penn State. In Pitt’s 21-12 victory at Maryland, Mack defeated Tony Farace 12-4. He then took down Jordan Conaway of Penn State by a 5-2 decision in the 133 weight class. No. 11 Pitt went 1-1 this weekend with a win over Maryland and a loss at No. 1 Penn State. (Read More).

Swimming and Diving: Kinga Cichowska. The freshman established two new individual school records for the Panthers at the AT&T Winter Nationals and was also a part of a third record as a member of the 400-yard medley relay team. Cichowska set school records in the 100-yard breast (1:01.61) and 200-yard breast (2:12.02), while she and teammates Blair Wegescheide, Veronica Lee and Dani des Tombe went 3:39.78 in the medley relay.
