Coaches Corner is where you can learn from Pitt's Head Coaches about their sport. Today, we have some advice from Women's Soccer Coach Sue-Moy Chin.
Q: What should I eat before a big game?
A: You should eat about 4 hours before a big game. We (women's soccer) normally eat carbs like pasta and chicken and some vegetables.
Q: How long do I need to sleep the night before a big game?
A: Getting about 8 hours the night before a big game is good. Too much or too little sleep will definitely affect performance.
Q: What is your favorite drill to run at practice?
A: We love to work on our possession in soccer and we have a great game that works on that plus our movement (runs) off the ball. It's competitive and a lot of fun.
Q: How do you select team captains?
A: We let our team select their leaders through an anonymous vote.
Q: How do you get your team pumped up for a game?
A: We motivate and set goals before every game.
Q: What do you say to your team after a loss?
A: We encourage them to keep their heads up and take the positives out of the day, how we played, the things we did well. We focus on the process and not the outcome after a loss.
Q: What is your team motto?
Q: What is your practice schedule like?
A: We practice in the fall in the afternoons for an hour an a half, unless it's a fitness day. Then we usually go for another 20 minutes.
Q: Who makes sure that your team is doing well in the classroom during the season?
A: Our players take responsibility for their grades but we keep tabs on their performance through our academic support staff. They do a great job of helping our athletes.
Q: Who do you look up to as your role model?
