Panthers Return to Invite for 16th Time in Program History

PITTSBURGH – The 24th-ranked University of Pittsburgh wrestling team heads back west for the 36th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational set to begin Friday, Dec. 1 in Las Vegas.
The two-day tournament, set to begin at 12 p.m. EST, will take place in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

#CKLV PRESEEDS ANNOUNCED
- Pitt has nine wrestlers competing this weekend with four entering the weekend as preseeds in their respective weight classes: Dom Forys (133 - #3), Taleb Rahmani (157 - #10), Jake Wentzel (165 - #14), Ryan Solomon (285 - #4).
- The weekend field features 30 NCAA Division I teams including nine of the nation's top 20 teams featuring Ohio State, Michigan, Arizona State, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Wyoming, North Carolina, Cornell and more.
PANTHERS RETURN TO #CKLV
- Pitt returns to the 36th Annual Cliff Keen Invitational for the 16th time in program history and for the first since 2011.
- The Panthers placed eighth in 2011 with Matt Wilps placing the highest (third) individually at 197 pounds.
- Pitt has finished in the top 10 as a team on eight occasions, placing fourth twice (2008, 1996).
- The last Panther to earn a title at #CKLV was current head coach Keith Gavin in 2008. Gavin went on to win a national title that same year.
- Pitt first made the trip to Las Vegas in 1989 and finished 24th.
PANTHERS IN THE POLLS
- Pitt checks in at No. 24 in this week's USA Today/NWCA Polls and is one of three ACC teams in the top 25. NC State leads the way ranking sixth and Virginia Tech checks in at No. 10. North Carolina and Virginia were receiving votes this week.
- Three Panthers are ranked by InterMat this week in No. 6 Dom Forys at 133 pounds, No. 8 Ryan Solomon at 285 pounds and No. 19 Taleb Rahmani at 157 pounds.
- Although not ranked by InterMat, redshirt freshman Jake Wentzel made his way into the FloWrestling rankings, checking in at No. 17 at 165 pounds.
LAST TIME OUT - A WEEKEND OUT WEST
- The Panthers had a trio of duals the weekend of Nov. 17 for their first of the season.
- The team first took on CSU Bakersfield in Bakersfield, Calif., taking down the Roadrunners, 21-18.
- Pitt then faced No. 18 Wisconsin in Bakersfield and suffered its first loss of the season, 26-6.
- The Panthers made the trip to Tempe, Ariz., Nov. 19 to take on the 12th-ranked Arizona Sun Devils. Pitt suffered a 32-6 loss in Gammage Theatre.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Pitt heads to West Virginia Saturday, Dec. 9 to take on the Mountaineers at 2 p.m. in the WVU Coliseum.
- The Panthers host Clarion Saturday, Dec. 16 in the home opener at 3 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Field House.
