PITTSBURGH – The 25th-ranked University of Pittsburgh wrestling team makes the short trip to Morgantown, W.Va., to take on the Mountaineers in the 63rd edition of the Backyard Brawl.
Action between the Panthers (1-2) and West Virginia (0-2) is set to get underway at 2 p.m. in the WVU Coliseum.

THE SERIES
- Pitt and West Virginia meet for the 63rd time in program history and clash for the 52nd consecutive year.
- The Panthers lead the all-time series 36-24-2.
- The two teams last met a year ago in Pittsburgh. Pitt topped the Mountaineers 23-15.
- The rivalry began in the 1934-35 season when WVU recorded a 26-10 win over the Panthers.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt competed in the 36th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday Dec. 2.
- The Panthers finished tied for 12th after four Pitt wrestlers reached the podium including Dom Forys (133 - Seventh), Nick Zanetta (141 - Sixth), Taleb Rahmani (157 - Seventh) and Ryan Solomon (285 - Sixth).
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- West Virginia enters the Backyard Brawl 0-2 on the year in duals after falling to Utah Valley and Nebraska earlier in the season.
- Two Mountaineers in the line-up are ranked by InterMat this week in No. 6 Jacob A. Smith at 197 pounds, a three-time NCAA qualifier, and No. 19 Zeke Moisey at 125 pounds, a two-time NCAA qualifier and All-American.
- WVU finished the 2016-17 season 4-13 overall with a 1-3 mark against Big 12 opponents.
- Head coach Sammie Hensen is in his fourth year at the helm of the Mountaineer program with a 21-34 record.
PANTHERS IN THE POLLS
- Pitt checks in at No. 25 in this week's USA Today/NWCA Polls and is one of three ACC teams in the top 25. NC State leads the way ranking sixth and Virginia Tech checks in at No. 10, while North Carolina received votes this week.
- Four Panthers are ranked by InterMat this week in No. 11 Dom Forys at 133 pounds, No. 15 Ryan Solomon at 285 pounds, No. 18 Taleb Rahmani at 157 pounds and No. 17 Nick Zanetta at 141 pounds.
Although not ranked by InterMat, redshirt freshman Jake Wentzel made his way into the FloWrestling rankings, checking in at No. 16 at 165 pounds.
