Pitt Resumes Action Saturday, Dec. 16 for Home Opener vs. Clarion
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 25th-ranked University of Pittsburgh wrestling team fell on the road to West Virginia, 24-10, Saturday afternoon in the WVU Coliseum.
With the loss, the Panthers drop to 1-3 on the year, while the Mountaineers move to 1-2 overall.
Three Pitt wrestlers earned wins in the Backyard Brawl including senior Dom Forys at 133 pounds and redshirt seniors Nick Zanetta at 141 pounds and Ryan Solomon at 285 pounds.
"It was an ugly loss," said head coach Keith Gavin. "We did not compete to our potential. We will address the issues and be better next time out."
The Mountaineers took a 6-0 lead to open the dual after No. 19 Zeke Moisey pinned senior Brendan Price in 6:38 at 125 pounds.
Forys put Pitt on the board after a 9-7 decision over Matthew Schmitt at 133 pounds, giving the home team a 6-3 advantage.
Zanetta followed that bout with a 7-1 decision of his own over Christian Monserrat at 141 pounds to tie the team score, 6-6.
