#PITTalia Travel Log: First 24 Hours, Arrival in Rome

ROME – The Pitt women's basketball team departed from Pittsburgh International Airport Sunday for a 10-day trip to Italy. Below is a travel log detailing the first 24+ hours of the tour:

SUNDAY, AUGUST 6, 2017

10:36 a.m. ET: Charter bus departs Petersen Events Center with a travel party of 32 people.

11:14 a.m.: Bus arrives at Pittsburgh International Airport for Panthers to catch connecting flight to Atlanta.
12:22 p.m.: Panthers complete security checks and arrive at Gate D78.
2:13 p.m.: Travel party arrives in Atlanta for a short layover.
3:26 p.m.: Panthers board the plane to Rome at Gate E17.
4:27 p.m.: Plane takes off en route to Rome.

6:32 p.m.: Dinner is served aboard the flight. Options include either veggie lasagna, stuffed chicken breast or a shrimp salad.

MONDAY, AUGUST 7, 2017

12:50 a.m. ET: Breakfast is served aboard the flight: a peach muffin, honey yogurt, sharp cheddar cheese and yogurt.
2:01 a.m. ET (8:01 a.m. CEST): Flight lands at Aeroporto di Roma-Fiumicino.
9:01 a.m. CEST: Bus arrives to load up Panthers for brunch and an orientation tour.
9:38 a.m.: Arrive at Sheraton for brunch, which includes meats, cheeses, pastries, fruit and other traditional Italian breakfast items.
10:50 a.m.: Depart Sheraton.
11:10 a.m.: Pick up local guide for orientation tour.
11:25 a.m.: View sights from the bus such as the Circus Maximus, Palazio, Roman Baths, and Caracalla.
12:30 p.m.: Walking tour starts. Necessary pit stop for gelato at Fontana di Trevi.
12:56 p.m.: Arrive at the Pantheon.
1:09 p.m.: Arrive at final stop of tour, Piazza de Navona. Temperature reads 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit).
1:20 p.m.: Depart for hotel.

1:39 p.m.: Arrive at hotel, time to shower and relax for a bit.
2-7:50 p.m.: Time to spend on your own sightseeing. The Spanish Steps at Piazza di Spagna was a popular choice.
7:50 p.m.: Walk to dinner at Il Pomodorino.
8-9:39 p.m.: Dinnertime. Eat loads of bruschetta, antipasti, and all sorts of pizza and pasta.

9:40 p.m.: Walk back to hotel.
11 p.m.: Lights out.
