Catie Conrad Transfers to Pitt after Three Years at Eastern Michigan
PITTSBURGH – Pitt head gymnastics coach Samantha Snider announced Monday the addition of Eastern Michigan transfer Catie Conrad to the 2018 Roster.
Conrad, an all-around competitor, comes to Pittsburgh as a true senior, having spent the past three years with the Eagles. She will be eligible immediately.
"We are thrilled to have Catie join us for this upcoming season," said Snider. "She will be a huge asset for us and make an immediate impact on our program. She brings invaluable leadership and competition experience with her that will help elevate Pitt gymnastics."
Conrad found success at Eastern Michigan, earning Second Team All-MAC honors and MAC All-Tournament accolades in both 2016 and 2017. She also achieved at a high standard in the classroom, earning Academic All-MAC honors twice, while making the Dean's List four straight semesters. Conrad also earned NACGC/W Scholastic All-America honors following her freshman season and was selected to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum this past June.
"I am so grateful to be able to compete my final year of gymnastics at the University of Pittsburgh," said Conrad. "The coaching staff is amazing and I am looking forward to expanding my skill set to help them as an all-around athlete this upcoming year."
"I also look forward to growing academically, socially and professionally as a Panther. Pitt has an incredible business program, which will give me the perfect opportunity to continue pursuing my degree. I'm excited to begin this new adventure."
Last season for the Eagles, Conrad earned career high scores on bars (9.900) and floor (9.850), and in the all-around (39.350) at the MAC Championship. She also posted a new best on beam (9.900) versus Kent State earlier in the season. Conrad's score on bars earned her a share of the MAC title, while she finished third in the all-around.
As a sophomore in 2016, Conrad was a part of Eastern Michigan's record-breaking season in which the Eagles reached NCAA Regionals for the first time in program history. Prior to regionals, she placed second in the all-around at the MAC Championship.
Conrad saw time in the Eagles' starting lineups on bars and beam during her freshman season.
A native of Brighton, Mich., she competed for Conrad's Gymnastics Academy. She qualified for regionals six years in a row and the Junior Olympic National Invitational Tournament three straight years.
Snider, who enters her first season at the helm of the Panthers, will look to begin building a championship caliber program. Pitt returns four All-EAGL performers, including rising senior Taylor Laymon, who qualified for NCAA Regionals on bars in 2017 along with rising junior and EAGL beam champion Brittany West.
