At the opening of the first set, Pitt scored three straight to get off to a good start but a fighting EKU answered with three of their own to tie the score.
The two teams remained knotted through the front half of the set until the Panthers found themselves out in front 16-12, as errors began plaguing the Colonels.
Pitt outscored EKU 9-4 in the final points to take the first match. Lund and Van Buskirk each tallied four kills in the set.
Set Two: Pitt 25, EKU 18
Back-to-back kills by Lund and Rosignol got things going early in the second set for the Panthers, as Pitt got out to a 10-5 lead.
Van Buskirk picked up her eighth kill of the match as she gave the Panthers a six-point lead, midway through the match. Pitt led 16-10 and remained out in front, to where EKU called its second timeout at the 19-15 mark.
Following the timeout, the Colonels pulled within two of the Panthers, but Pitt would not give up another point as they tallied five consecutive points to close out the set. Williams was responsible for three of the five kills, while Lund added one.
Set Three: Pitt 25, EKU 12
The Panthers came away with the win after taking the third set 25-12.
Pitt dominated the opening points of the third set, getting out in front 11-2 and forcing an EKU timeout. The Panthers went on an 8-0 run to get to that point partially thanks to the Colonels errors.
Over the next 11 points, Pitt held its lead and went ahead 17-7. EKU continued to struggle allowing the Panther to take the set and the match.
