PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team (1-5, 0-0 ACC) is set to host a pair of ranked opponents this weekend beginning with No. 25 North Dakota State (4-5, 0-3 Big 12) Friday at 7 p.m., followed by No. 18 Oklahoma (2-2, 0-0 Big 12) Sunday.
The Panthers first duals of the New Year will be held in the Fitzgerald Field House.
HOW TO FOLLOW
- Both non-conference duals will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra and may be viewed on WatchESPN/WatchESPN app.
- Both duals will also use TrackWrestling for live stats.

WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
- Friday's dual is Military Appreciation Night. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a free Stars and Stripes Pitt magnet decal.
- Sunday is Jr. Panthers/Youth Day as the team will hold a pre-match youth clinic from 12-1 p.m. on the center mat. Kids ages five and older are welcome to participate. Free rally towels will also be given away at the dual for all fans.
THE SERIES
- Pitt and North Dakota State clash for the first time in program history Friday.
- The Panthers and Sooners meet for the fourth time Sunday.
- Oklahoma leads the series 3-0 and claimed the last meeting in 2008, 17-15.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt dropped two duals to end 2017, falling to Clarion Dec. 16, 20-24, and Bucknell Dec. 17, 20-16.
- In the home opener against the Golden Eagles, four Panthers recorded wins despite suffering a loss as a team. Senior Dom Forys gave Pitt its first lead of the dual after winning by technical fall in 4:04 of Roshaun Cooley at 133 pounds. Redshirt sophomore Taleb Rahmani pinned Avery Shay at 157 pounds to give the Panthers an 11-9 lead in the dual, while redshirt freshman Jake Wentzel followed that with an overtime win at 165 pounds to boost Pitt's lead to 14-9. Clarion went on to claim the following three bouts and clinch the dual. Redshirt senior Ryan Solomon pinned Toby Cahill in 1:32, but it wouldn't be enough.
- The following day, the Panthers took on the Bucknell Bison on the road. Similar to the day before, four Pitt wrestlers would pick up wins in the loss.
- Making his junior season debut, LJ Bentley got things started at 125 pounds as he picked up a 3-1 win over Jake Campbell. Forys followed that by a 14-4 major decision over Joey Gould, giving the Panthers a 7-0 lead. The Bison claimed the next two weight classes to tie the dual as 7-7. Rahmani put Pitt back in front after a 7-2 decision over Christin Bassolino at 157 pounds. Rahmani's would be the last for the Panthers until the final bout when Solomon pinned Nate Feyrer in 1:46.
SCOUTING THE BISON
- The 25th-ranked North Dakota State Bison come to Pittsburgh with a 4-5 overall record and are 0-3 against Big 12 opponents.
- NDSU jumped into the NWCA/USA Today Coaches Rankings for the first time this season Jan. 3, checking in at No. 25.
- Individually, two Bison are ranked by InterMat in No. 14 Clay Ream at 157 pounds and No. 18 Andrew Fogarty at 165 pounds.
- NDSU concluded 2017 on a high note, finishing 3-1 at the South Beach Duals, which was highlighted by a 20-16 upset over No. 12 Cornell.
- North Dakota State is led by seventh-year head coach Roger Kish, a 2008 graduate of Minnesota and is 58-44 overall.
SCOUTING THE SOONERS
- Prior to making the trip to Pittsburgh, Oklahoma will make a stop at West Virginia Thursday, Jan. 4 to take on the Mountaineers in Big 12 action.
- The Sooners check in a No. 18 in the latest USA Today/NWCA Coaches Rankings and were previously ranked 19th.
- Two Oklahoma wrestlers are ranked individually by InterMat in No. 13 Yoanse Mejias at 174 pounds and No. 17 Christian Moody at 125 pounds.
- The Sooners are led by second-year head coach Lou Rosselli who is 13-8 at the helm.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Panthers will have a week away from competition and will resume Sunday, Jan. 21 when the Virginia Tech Hokies come to town for the ACC opener.
