
Pitt Picks Up Two Wins During First Day of Tiger Classic

MEMPHIS – Pitt improved to 13-6 on the season with wins over Indiana State, 2-1, and North Alabama, 3-1, during the first day of the Tigers Classic at the Tiger Softball Complex.
The Panthers will continue the tournament tomorrow with another double header against North Alabama (12:30 p.m. ET) and host team Memphis (ESPN+ - 5:30 p.m. ET).
Pitt 2, Indiana State 1
The Panthers didn't waste any time getting on the board, as graduate student Yvonne Whaley (1-for-3, R) hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the first inning. Fellow classmate Sarah Seamans (1-for-3, RBI) drove Whaley home with another double down the left-field line, making the score 1-0.
Redshirt sophomore Dani Drogemuller retired the side in the next two innings before giving up back-to-back singles for the Sycamores to even the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth.
Excellent base-running by Kayla Lane (0-for-1, R, BB, 2 SB) got the Panthers in scoring position in the fifth. Lane stole second and then third and was brought home by freshman Macy Hamilton's RBI single to the shortstop.
Drogemuller (5-3) earned the win after tossing 6.0 innings with six strikeouts compared to two walks. The Frankfort, Ill. Native allowed just one earned run on six hits. Graduate student Abby Edwards recorded a save with 1.0 shutout inning of relief and two strikeouts.
Pitt 3, North Alabama 1
Pitt and North Alabama were scoreless through the first three innings before Seamans (1-for-2, R, BB) scored on a bunt single by Lane (0-for-1, RBI, BB) in the fourth.
Senior Bailey Drapola (1-for-1, R, RBI) added an insurance run with a solo home run to center field in the fifth inning before Kylie Griggs (1-for-3, RBI) hit an RBI double in the sixth inning to make the score 3-1.
Edwards (4-3) pitched a 7.0 complete game, allowing just one earned run on seven hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.
