
Rodriguez Goes 6-for-6, Panthers Drop Extra Inning Battle to Georgia Tech

Kat Rodriguez Set Program Record and Has Most Hits in a Single Game in the ACC this Season.
PITTSBURGH – The Panthers and Yellow Jackets followed up their back-and-forth series opener with another extra inning battle Saturday afternoon at Vartabedian Field. Pitt could not answer in the bottom of the 10th inning, dropping the second game of the series to Georgia Tech, 13-11.
Kat Rodriguez set a program record by going 6-for-6 at the plate, marking the most hits in a single game by an ACC player this season. Rodriguez was the offensive spark for the Panthers, finishing with three runs scored, three RBI, two doubles and a home run.
The Panthers recorded a season-high 16 hits, while both Pitt and Georgia Tech combined for 24 runs and 29 hits over the course of the game that lasted 4:23.
Pitt started off strong by scoring a combined five runs in the first two innings. Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez and Cami Compson each hit an RBI single to take an early 2-1 lead after the first inning. The Panthers added three more runs in the second off an RBI single from Yvonne Whaley and a two-run home run from Rodriguez.
Abby Edwards had a strong outing on the mound, holding the Yellow Jackets to just one run on one hit and one strikeout through 4.0 innings.
Georgia Tech led off the fifth inning with a single, sparking a big rally for the Yellow Jackets' offense. After trailing by four runs, the Yellow Jackets put up seven runs on five hits in a single frame to take an 8-5 lead. Georgia Tech added two more runs in the next inning while Whaley and Rodriguez hit back-to-back doubles to cut the deficit. Sarah Seamans made it a one-run ballgame with a three-run homer to cap off the sixth inning, making the score 10-9.
Seamans also tied the game with an RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings for the second straight day. Georgia Tech and Pitt each scored a single run in the eighth inning, but the Yellow Jackets scored two runs in the 10th off a solo home run and an RBI double to secure the win.
UP NEXT
The Panthers conclude the series with Georgia Tech tomorrow at Vartabedian Field (12 p.m. – ACCNX). Pitt will host a midweek doubleheader against Akron, Tuesday, April 18, beginning at 3 p.m. The Panthers will continue ACC play at Clemson April 21-23.
