PITTSBURGH – The No. 5 Pitt volleyball team (11-2, 3-0 ACC) swept Clemson (12-3, 0-3 ACC) 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-21) Friday night at the Fitzgerald Field House to go 3-0 in conference play. Olivia Babcock recorded a match-high 12 kills with no errors hitting .632, and freshman Abbey Emch impressed on the defensive end notching a career-high five blocks.
The Panthers came out hot from the first point of set one, getting out to a 15-8 lead at the media timeout. A 4-2 run for Pitt behind a Marina Pezelj ace forced Clemson to take a timeout. The Tigers were unable to tie things up, and a kill from Bre Kelley secured the set one victory, 25-17.
Izzy Masten served the Panthers to a 7-1 run despite an early Clemson timeout. The Tigers came alive on a three-point run of their own, but a Mallorie Meyer ace and a pair of kills from Blaire Bayless and Dagmar Mourits led to Clemson taking its second timeout, down 14-6. A pair of service runs from Mourits and Brooke Mosher and a powerful Pitt offense took set two decisively by a score of 25-10.
Pitt held a narrow 7-5 advantage and eventually a 15-11 lead at the media break. The Tigers recorded a few points but eventually had to talk things over at 17-13 after a Ryla Jones kill and a Tiger attack error. Despite its best effort, Clemson was unable to tie things up, and Pitt won set three 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
