"I thought we executed our game plan almost to perfection. We did everything we wanted to do. We wanted a low scoring game we wanted to take care of the ball and we did those things. I'm really proud of the effort and the focus, the intensity. We had a great year, we overachieved and we're disappointed that we weren't able to finish this game" - Head Coach Muffet McGraw

Notre Dame is 22-12 (.647) all-time in 13 previous NCAA Tournament appearances (all under McGraw), having won 10 of its past 11 NCAA first-round games, and advancing to the Sweet 16 (regional semifinals) six times in the past decade. In addition, Notre Dame's current streak of 12 consecutive NCAA Tournament berths is the eighth-longest in the nation, while its .647 winning percentage is ninth-best in tournament history. The Irish also have made two NCAA Final Four appearances and won the national championship in 2001. Notre Dame has been a No. 9 seed on two other occasions -- in 1998, the Irish defeated eighth-seeded Southwest Missouri State, 78-64 and No. 1 seed Texas Tech, 74-59, both in Lubbock, Texas, en route to a berth in the Sweet 16. Last season, Notre Dame also was a No. 9 seed, dropping a 78-61 first-round game to Boston College in West Lafayette, Ind.

"I thought it was a great game in the second half for both teams. I didn't know what it was with us; I can't answer that right now. Were we scared? Were we intimidated? Were we tentative? I don't know. But we put ourselves in a situation this year against a couple other teams, and we've come from behind and we've been able to pull the games out." - Head Coach Joanne Boyle

The Bears, who at 23-8 have equaled the program's best record through 31 games, will be making their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance and second since 1993. Last season, 10th-seeded Cal lost to seventh-seeded St. John's, 78-68, in the first round of NCAAs in University Park, Pa.

"North Carolina was bigger, stronger, and faster than we were today. But let me say that I'm very proud of our young ladies for even getting to this point. As I said before, we were picked to be ninth in our conference, and not only were we co-champions of the regular season but we were also SWAC champions in our tournament. We're very young, and we have a bright future. We got out-rebounded today, we got out-played today, but I really like our chances of coming out next year and making a bigger impact." - Head Coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke

PVAMU Women's Basketball wins first-ever SWAC Tournament title and earn first trip to the NCAA Tournament.

"Survive and advance. Tough, I knew Notre Dame was going to give us a great game and they did. But, I was proud of these young ladies. I have said these the last few weeks, Ivory [Latta], Camille [Little] and Erlana [Larkins], they carry us, but LaToya [Pringle], who likes her role as a support player, did a great job and that is the mark of a great team. We were down by seven and we put Alex Miller in at point and at that point, we started getting the ball inside. It was tough." - Head Coach Sylvia Hatchell

North Carolina, which won the ACC conference tournament, earned a No. 1 seed for the third straight season and will open Sunday against Prairie View. The Tar Heels are the top seed in the Dallas region.

"First of all, I'd like to thank the NCAA for a terrific tournament experience for our team. I'd like to congratulate the University of Tennessee on their win today and wish them the very best of luck throughout the course of the tournament. I'm sure they'll be many people in Des Moines cheering for the Lady Vols. I'd also like to thank Coach Summit for the time that she gave our program, and the class act that she is. With regards to the game today I couldn't be more proud of our team." - Head Coach Amy Stephens

Drake will be making its 10th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. But this will mark the first time the Bulldogs have played in the NCAA Tournament since 2002 when they were a No. 7 seed and advanced to the Sweet 16 in Raleigh, N.C. In its last appearance in the NCAA Tournament Drake claimed 2002 first-round and second-round victories past Syracuse (87-69) and then No. 7 ranked Baylor (76-72), respectively, en route to advancing to the East Regional where it lost to South Carolina (79-65). This marks the first time Drake has ever been a No. 16 seed in the NCAA Tournament. However, Drake has played a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, knocking off Long Beach State, 91-78, in the 1982 West Regional semifinal round in Stanford, Calif. Drake has a 2-2 record vs. SEC teams in the NCAA Tournament, beating Kentucky (73-70) in first round of the 1986 NCAA Tournament before falling to Mississippi (84-71) in the second round. The Bulldogs beat Mississippi, 87-81, in overtime in the first round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs fell to South Carolina, 79-65, in the semifinal round of the 2002 East Regional in Raleigh, N.C. This will mark the third time in her four-year tenure that Stephens has led Drake to a post-season tournament with the Bulldogs also playing in the 2004 and 2006 WNIT.

"Obviously I'm really excited for our basketball team. Coming into this game having to play Pitt on their home floor, they had obviously a good vocal crowd. I felt our team in the first half really stepped up and played very well, executed well together offensively. We felt we could go inside and Candace established herself. But she's not passing to herself. Her teammates did a great job in getting her the basketball. On the defensive end, it seemed like they scored much more than I wanted them to, but they did a nice job of spacing and obviously getting the ball inside as well."- Head Coach Pat Summitt

Tennessee has played 65 different opponents in 111 NCAA playoff games since 1982 and sports a 92-19 record. Of the Lady Vols 111 games in the NCAA Tournament since 1982, Tennessee has faced 22 different conferences. Almost two-thirds of UT's total number of games have come against teams from the Southeastern Conference (13-2) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (15-3). You can call it longevity. You can call it coaching and performance. You can call it strength of schedule. Whatever you call it, the University of Tennessee has earned 17 number-one seedings all-time in the NCAA Tournament since 1982. Additionally, UT has been seeded number two on four occasions, number three, three times and number four just once. From 1988-96, the Lady Vols had nine consecutive number one seedings. Only 26 schools have ever received number one seeds over the years.

"First and foremost, I'm very proud of the kids and the effort that we gave. We knew that it was going to be a very tough task going out against a first-round opponent and they (Pittsburgh) has the game on their home court. We knew that we had to play exceptionally well to win tonight. I thought that we played well in a lot of different areas." - Head Coach Kenny Brooks

JMU's NCAA tournament appearance will be the Dukes' sixth overall and their first since the 1995-96 season. JMU played in four straight NCAA events from the 1985-86 season through 1988-89 and in the 1990-91 tournament in addition the 1995-96 appearance. The Dukes in 1985-86, 1986-87, 1987-88 and 1990-91 reached the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament. JMU in 1985-86 reached the "Sweet 16" with a victory at regionally top-seeded Virginia, and the Dukes in 1990-91 defeated nationally No. 1-ranked Penn State en route to their "Sweet 16" appearance.

"I thought that the game was an awesome experience for everyone in the Petersen Events Center. My student athletes did a tremendous job competing at that high of a level. The environment was awesome. That's the type of excitement and entertainment we hope to bring to Pittsburgh. It's about being great both on the court and off the court. I just want to thank everyone at the University for having a vision and believing that we could get where we are today." - Head Coach Agnus Berenato

The Pitt women's basketball team (23-8) has earned its first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament with a first round matchup against James Madison (27-5) on March 18 at 9:30 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 2.

"This is an historic day not only for this program but also for this University," Athletics Director Jeff Long said. "When Agnus Berenato came here, she asked for a seven year contract because that's how long she thought it would take to turn this program around. What a testament to her and her ability to coach that it only took her four."

Pitt earned a No. 8 seed in their first-ever tournament selection and will face No. 9 seeded James Madison for the first time in each program's history. JMU is 7-6 in its six NCAA appearances, including its last loss to Duke, 85-58, in the 1996 first round.
