Mission

The mission of the University's Trademark Licensing Program is to:

• Assist in the positive promotion of the University of Pittsburgh.
• Protect the integrity and images associated with the University of Pittsburgh.
• Ensure proper use and application of University of Pittsburgh identity marks.
• Strengthen University of Pittsburgh identity marks through relationships with licensees, retailers, campus departments, student organizations, alumni, and fans.
• Generate revenue to fund scholarships for student-athletes.

The Office of Trademark Licensing will:

• Register University identity marks with state, national, and international governing bodies.
• Approve the use of the University identity marks.
• Negotiate and consummate agreements for the commercial use of registered identity marks.
• Monitor sales reports and accounts for royalties paid by licensees for the use of University identity marks.
• Monitor the marketplace to control unlicensed use of University identity marks.
