Maczweski and Dubiel Earn Pitt Performer of the Meet Honors

Jan. 30, 2010

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Freshman Adam Maczewski and junior Andrzej Dubiel were named Pitt Performers of the Meet, as the men’s swimming and diving team fell 164-124 to Virginia, this afternoon, at Virginia’s Aquatic and Fitness Center. The Panthers dropped to 5-4 in dual meet action.

"The Panthers competed tough against one of the top dual meet teams in the nation in the Virginia Cavaliers," Head Coach Chuck Knoles said.

"This meet allowed us to put a little pressure on ourselves with a little more than two weeks left before the Big East Championships.” Knoles added. For the most part, I was very pleased with how our athletes stepped up today."

Maczewski won the 100 back after touching the wall at 49.43. He also swam the lead leg of the second-place 200 medley relay for Pitt, turning in a 23.29 split on his 50 back. The squad finished the race at 1:31.74 and included senior Jon Buchanan, sophomore Jake Lucas and Dubiel.

In an individual event, Dubiel placed second in the 50 freestyle (20.79). He was also a member of the winning 200 free relay team (1:22.36). Dubiel anchored the free relay with a 19.79 split and went 19.66 as the anchor of the medley relay. Both were the fastest 50 frees of their respective races.

Dubiel was also third in the 200 back.

Sophomore Rousseau Kluever placed second in the 200 fly (1:51.75), while junior Collin Forner won the 3M diving event (328.35) and was second on the 1M board (307.13).

Later in the meet, Sophomore Ryan Lynn and freshman Jared Kolwyck finished second and third in the 500 free, respectively.

Pitt will honor its seniors and conclude its dual meet season on Saturday, Feb. 6, against Clarion, CMU and Cal U. Diving begins at 11 with swimming following at noon.
