PITTSBURGH—Five Panthers competed in the finals this evening, as the University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving team hosted the first day of the Big East Championship at Trees Pool on Friday.
The men claimed fourth through sixth in the finals on the 3M board. Leading the Panthers in his first-ever Big East Championship was freshman Harris Bergman. He scored 309.90 points, including 60.20 for his dive in the second round.
Junior Erik Moore was fifth with 308.30 points and sophomore Aaron Snyder was sixth overall. Snyder improved upon his 15th-place performance from a season ago, while Moore made his first appearance in the 3M finals.
On the 1M diving board, freshman Angelika McGhee turned in a seventh-place performance (228.20) and sophomore Leigh Waltz rounded out the top eight (220.05). Both advanced to the finals for the first time in their careers.
Saturday’s events include the women’s 3M board and the men’s 1M diving event. The prelims begin at noon at Trees Pool.
