PITTSBURGH—Co-Swimmer of the ECAC Championships, sophomore Jake Lucas earned an individual ECAC crown, as select members of the men's swimming and diving team competed in the ECAC Championships, held at Trees Pool.
Just last week, Lucas broke the longest standing record in Pitt’s books, when he fell two seconds under the previous standard of 48.09 in the 100 fly during the Big East Championships. Well, this weekend, he posted a time of 47.24 in the finals of that event, eclipsing the previous ECAC meet record of 48.01.
Lucas was also a member of two relays that garnered first-place finishes and set ECAC records. First, the team of Lucas, sophomore Otto Pagel, freshman Donald Mata and junior Andrzej Dubiel combined for a NCAA provisional time of 1:21.53. That mark was just under of the previous ECAC standard of 1:21.54.
Next, Pitt’s 200 medley relay team earned an ECAC crown and set a meet record, touching the wall at a collective NCAA ‘B’ cut of 1:29.53. The previous record was set at 1:31.28 in 1999. The relay squad was made up of freshman Adam Maczewski, senior Jonathan Buchanan and Lucas and sophomore Otto Pagel.
Also from that relay, Maczewski turned in an individual first-place performance, winning the 100 back with a NCAA provisional time of 48.60.
Earning a top-three finish, sophomore
Rousseau Kluever finished second in the 100 fly at 1:48.87.
Sophomore Christoph Berger rounded out the Panthers with sixth place personal-best finish of 4:36.48 in the 500 free, and taking seventh in the 400 IM (4:09.01).
The men’s NCAA Championships begin March 25 in Columbus, Ohio.
