PITTSBURGH – Mack Rice set a school record and won the 200IM, while the University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s swimming and diving team’s won seven events on day one of the Pitt Invitational at Trees pool.
Rice touched the wall in a school-record time of 1:48.92. Rice won the event by two seconds and led Pitt as the Panthers went 1-5 in that event.
The 200 Yard Freestyle women’s relay team of Alexandra Iwanicki, Jessica Nederlanden, Joanna Budzis and Dani des Tombe took first place by out-touching the West Virginia team by 0.3 seconds (1:34.29). The men’s team of Sean Heiden, Kourosh Ahani, David Sweeney Jr. and Alex Rodenkirk also won the 200 Free relay, and also defeated WVU in a winning time of 1:21.20.
Pitt also won the men’s 400 Yard Medley Relay with Adam Maczewski, Nosbisch, Ahani and Sweeney Jr.
Competition at Trees Pool continues tomorrow with prelims at 10 a.m., followed by the finals starting at 6 p.m.
