VILLANOVA, Pa. – After a weekend off from competition, the University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are back in the pool for a two day meet at Villanova starting on Friday evening and running through Saturday afternoon.
The women’s three meter dive will opening Friday’s slate of events at 3:30 p.m., followed by the swimming events which begin at 5 p.m. The men’s three meter dive will kick off Saturday competition at 9 a.m., with swimming to follow at roughly 10:30 a.m. All competition will be held at the Villanova Swim Complex.
Both the Pitt men and women enter the dual meet with an overall record of 3-2 and 1-1 in Big East competition. Both squads are coming off wins against West Virginia two weekends ago.
The women’s meet will be competitive as both teams boast some of the league’s fastest swimmers in their respective events. Villanova has the two of the top distance swimmers thus far as Roxanne Tammadge (1,000 free) and Hayley Edwards (1,650 free) own the Big East top times.
The Wildcats’ two wins came against LaSalle and James Madison, while their losses were at the hands of West Virginia and Penn State.
The men’s team looks to have a much easier going with Villanova than the women as they focus on preparing for the Big East Championship meet which is a little over one month away. Adam Maczewski still owns the league’s top time in the 100 backstroke (47.59).
