PITTSBURGH—Senior Geoff Morgan earned Pitt Performer of the Meet honors, as the University of Pittsburgh men’s swimming and diving team earned a 196-97 victory over Carnegie Mellon in its regular-season finale at Trees Pool, this afternoon. The Panthers improved to 6-4 on the season and honored its seniors Jonathan Buchanan, Justin Corvin, Murray Hannan, Morgan and Charlie Zettel.
Morgan recorded a first-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of (51.81).
Later, the Panthers would sweep the 100 breast, as junior Donald Mata won the event at 58.90. Morgan and sophomore Aidan Considine followed for second and third, respectively. Mata would also place second in the 100 free (46.97), while Considine won the 200 breast (2:14.31).
In the first swimming event of the day, freshman Adam Maczewski, Buchanan, sophomore Jake Lucas and junior Andrzej Dubiel recorded a first-place finish of 1:31.98 in the 200 medley relay. That time was well under the ECAC qualifying standard.
Individually, Dubiel won the 100 back with a time of 50.62. Buchanan took second in the same event, finishing at 52.56.
Later, Maczewski led the group in the 200 back with a time of 1:51.67. Sophomores Christoph Berger and Rousseau Kluever claimed second and third in the event.
Pitt also swept the 50 free, as Lucas, Corvin and Alex Kubicek all recorded ECAC automatic standards. Lucas won the event at 20.75.
Then, in the final individual event of the day, Zettel won the 200 IM (1:56.57), while Berger and Considine finished second and third, respectively. Zettel was also first in the 200 fly (1:52.55).
Additionally, freshman Hussein Medhat won the 200 free with a time of 1:40.78. Sophomore Jacob Van Roekel touched for second in the same event, qualifying both for the ECACs.
Winning their event with ECAC marks, sophomore Otto Pagel touched first in the 100 free (46.06) and sophomore Jared Kolwyck claimed the 500 free title (4:41.84).
The Panthers will host the Big East Diving Championships from Friday, Feb. 12, through Sunday, Feb. 14. The conference swim meet will be held at Trees Pool from Wednesday, Feb. 17, through Saturday, Feb. 20.
