CAYMAN ISLANDS – Incoming freshman Scott Simmer won the inaugural Flowers International 5K Swim on Seven Miles Beach in the Cayman Islands last weekend.

The Santa Monica, Calif. native led wire-to-wire and finished the race with a time of 1:01:07. He was 47 seconds clear of second place. Simmer also placed fourth in the open water mile.

Simmer is a part of one of the most highly anticipated recruiting classes at Pitt. As the Panthers transition into the ACC, Pitt will look to hit the ground running in one of the toughest swimming leagues in the nation.

The men’s team finished 7-2 in dual competition last season, while the women were 7-3. The Panthers broke 16 school records at the Big East Championship Meet and had three individual champions.
