LAURELDALE, Pa. - Chuck Knoles, the University of Pittsburgh men's and women's swimming and diving head coach, was selected as a member of the Pennsylvania Swimming Hall of Fame Class of 2013, as announced by the committee of the Pennsylvania High School Swimming Coaches' Association on Tuesday.
Now in his 22nd year as head coach for the Panthers, Knoles has guided Pitt to 11 of its 28 Big East titles in program history. The six-time Big East coach of the year has compiled an overall record of 227-116 in his time with the Panthers.
"What can I say about something like this?" Knoles said. "I've been coaching for 37 years, and it is never something I expected. It's a great honor, but tomorrow morning I am going to get up at 5 a.m. and go to our workout. This award says great things about the University of Pittsburgh and the swimming and diving program as a whole, I just happen to be the head coach."
Knoles will be honored prior to the start of the PIAA-AAA High School Girls Finals at Kinney Natatorium on the Campus of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. on March 16, 2013.
Knoles leads the Panthers into action this weekend at Notre Dame. Both the Pitt men and women are 2-1 this season and 1-0 in Big East competition.
