PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will host the Pittsburgh Invitational this weekend, beginning Nov. 22 and running through Nov. 24 at Trees Pool.
Pitt will host several teams including California (Pa.), St. Bonaventure, Cincinnati, Fairmont State, and WV Wesleyan along with Clemson and Michigan who will only be participating in diving.
Pitt returns to the pool after a tough loss to Notre Dame and Virginia Tech two weeks ago, but the Panthers look to make a strong comeback this weekend.
Junior swimmer Kourosh Ahani will lead the men’s team this weekend after an impressive win against Notre Dame and Virginia Tech in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a season best 48.39. Ahani remains undefeated during dual meets and invitationals in that event through the first two plus years of his career.
Leading the way for the women is sophomore swimmer Kaleigh Ritter. She won the 1,000-yard freestyle at the Panthers’ last meet and posted Pitt’s best time of the season by swimming a career-best 10:13.67.
On the boards, junior Harry Bergman looks to make strides after performing well in the 3M competition against Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. He finished with a total score of 341.85, which was his best score of the year.
Competition will start at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday morning with prelims, followed by the finals both evenings at 6 p.m. The meet will continue on Sunday at 9 a.m. and will come to an end with the finals at 3 p.m.
