April 7, 2017Panthers Complete Day 1 at Hurricane Alumni Invite
MIAMI – The Pitt track and field teams opened competition on the first day of the Hurricane Alumni Invitational hosted by the University of Miami at Cobb Stadium, Friday.
Senior Paige Lumley and junior Sullena Staton represented the Panthers in the heptathlon and finished the day in fifth and sixth place, respectively, after the first four events. The two will complete the competition Saturday with the long jump (9:30 a.m.), javelin (10 a.m.) and 800m (11 a.m.).
Lumley had a banner day with personal records in all four events. She registered PR marks for outdoor competition in the 200m (26.68) and shot put (11.15m), and placed fourth in both. The Johnstown, Pa., native had overall PRs in the 100m hurdles (15.04) and high jump (1.59m). In total, Lumley recorded 2,904 points and will enter Day 2 in fifth place.
Staton followed Lumley in sixth place with 2,484 points. The Philadelphia native posted marks of 26.82 in the 200m race, 17.04 in the 100m hurdles, 1.53m in high jump and 9.70m in shot put.
In the women’s high jump, junior Casey Harewood tied for sixth place with a leap of 1.55m.
The Panthers will complete weekend action Saturday at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla., and the George Mason Spring Invitational in Fairfax, Va.
