LEWISBURG, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh track and field team had a standout weekend on the track, as the team combined for two winning performances and 30 personal records at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
Senior Ashley Corum shined in all three of her events this past weekend, with her efforts culminating in a first-place finish in the women’s triple jump competition. Corum started off the weekend strong, setting a personal record in the 100-meter hurdles, as she crossed the finish line with a finish of 14.95 seconds. She then went on to set a career best distance in the long jump at 5.28 meters.
Adding to the Panthers success, sophomore Paige Lumley posted her own personal record in the 110-meter hurdle competition (15.37), surpassing her previous best time by 0.25 seconds.
Representing for the distance runners, sophomore Hillary Boxheimer captured first in the women’s 3,000-meter run, a success that also marked a new personal best time of 10:19.46. Freshman Dee Dee Adams followed close behind with a third-place finish and a new outdoor personal record (10:42.48). Teammates Kathryn Born and Tyler Swenson both set PRs and broke the top-ten in the same event.
The 5,000 meter run was another strong event for members of Pitt’s women’s team, as three athletes set new lifetime bests in the race. Ariel Pastore-Sebring led the charge with a finish of 18:15.80, and was followed by Mallory Hudson (18:58.86) and Mary Frank (19:02.28).
The Pitt men continued the PR trend in the distance events this weekend, as freshman Michael Runco set a new marker in the 5,000-meter run (14:52.97). Runco placed second overall in a field of 106 competitors, improving upon his previous best time by 64.32 seconds. Teammates Luke Swomley, Wesley Roberts, and Alex Archer also recorded new personal bests in the event.
The men’s 1,500-meter run contributed to the slew of personal records, as Cullen Davis (3:48.08), Chris Pastore (4:01.10) and Andrew John Chaborek (4:03.98) added three new fast times to the Panthers count for the weekend.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Luke Gallaher and Bradley Rocco sped along to set personal bests of 16.30 and 17.06, respectively.
Additional Panther PRs, include: Tyler Castelli (800-meter run), Ben Kisley (10,000-meter run), Christian Percy (100-meter dash) and Chris Spadaro (100-meter dash). On the women’s side, Kelsey Coates (10,000-meter run), Andrea Miller (800-meter run), Karli O’Neill (3,000-meter steeplechase), Stephanie Powers (10,000-meter run) and Chelsea Scott (200-meter dash).
With only a short rest period, the Panthers will be back in action on Thursday, April 17th through Saturday, April 19th at the ACC Outdoor Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C.
