ATLANTA – Pitt sophomore Matt McGoey was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference second team in the 3000m steeplechase with a fourth-place finish Saturday at the ACC Outdoor Championships at George C. Griffin Track Saturday.
Coming in fourth, McGoey picked up five points for the Panthers’ men’s team. He set a personal record of 8:57.79.
Two Panthers picked up points on the women’s side: senior Paige Lumley in the heptathlon and freshman Taylor Middleton in the long jump.
Lumley set a personal record for points in the heptathlon, coming in eighth at 4,903. She posted season-best marks in long jump (5.54m) and the 800m run (2:24.36).
Middleton contributed the first point of her collegiate career, finishing eighth in the long jump with a personal record leap of 5.94m.
Senior Desmond Palmer continued his successful weekend by claiming the top time in the 110m hurdles prelims with a personal best 13.70. He posted the top time in the 400m hurdles Friday, coming in at 49.70. He will compete in the finals of both events Sunday.
On the women’s side, junior Desiree Garland advanced to the finals in the 400m with a personal record of 53.62.
To close out the day, senior Chris Spadaro made the long jump finals out of flights, but was ultimately unable to score. He finished the day with a mark of 7.18m.
Pitt will complete competition at the ACC Championships Sunday, starting with the women’s triple jump at 2 p.m. ET.
