No. 2 Spratling officially set to compete in 400M Friday finals.
June 13, 2014
EUGENE, Oregon - Senior sprinter Brycen Spratling will represent the Panthers on day three of the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the men's 400 meter finals. After a disappointing day two in the men's 200 meter dash and 4x400 meter relay, Spratling will look to bring home a national title for Pittsburgh.
Spratling heads into the championship finals at No. 2 with a semi time of 45.41 seconds, as he looks to move into the No. 1 spot past Texas A&M's Deon Lendore (45.18 seconds).
The men's 4x4 relay team of Micah Murray, Carvin Nkanata, Desmond Palmer and Spratling turned in a 3:06.61 effort in the semis, and will not advance on to the finals. The Panthers finished 11th overall out of 24 relay teams, but only the top-eight will continue on to the Saturday finals.
In the men's 200 meter dash, Nkanata finished 14th in the semifinals with a time of 20.94 seconds. Despite not making the finals, both Nkanata and the 4x4 relay team attained second team All-American status. Nkanata will next compete for Team Kenya in the Commonwealth Games being held in Scotland later this summer.
Fans can watch Spratling in the 400 meter finals at 5:50 p.m. (PT) on ESPNU, and can also stay up-to-date with live results by visiting the NCAA Championship Central Page or follow us on Twitter @PittTFandXC.
