GENEVA, OHIO – The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to the SPIRE Indoor Track and Field Complex for the SPIRE Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
This event will host big-time collegiate competition for the Panthers as programs such as Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Syracuse, along with Pitt, headline the field of participating schools. The top three Canadian track and field programs, Western Ontario University, University of Guelph and the University of Toronto will also be competing.
The men’s 4x400M relay team, led off by Micah Murray then Carvin Nkanata, Desmond Palmer and anchored by Brycen Spratling will be back together again this weekend, looking to break another record. Last weekend, they set a new meet record in the 4x2 relay (1:25.24) and won the 4x4 relay (3:09.08) at the Armory Invite. The relay team is seeded first in the 4x2M relay event for this weekend.
Spratling is also ranked first in the 200 and 400M dash events. For the women, Evann Thompson will also compete in the 200 and 400M dash; she is currently seeded in second for the 200M and fifth for the 400M.
Nkanata the current school record holder in the 200 meter (20.99) will compete in the men’s 200M dash, while Taranisha Taylor will represent for the women in the same event.
