GENEVA, Ohio – The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s track and field team turn in solid showings on day one of competition at the SPIRE Collegiate Invitational. Brycen Spratling and Micah Murray finished first and third in the men’s 200M dash on Friday at the GaREAT Sports Complex.
For the women, Ashley Corum set a new personal record in the indoor pentathlon with a total score of 3,496, finishing fifth overall. Haley Springman and Brittany Lightfoot also set career bests, but instead in the weight throw event.
Springman threw for a distance of 18.26 meters, breaking her previous record of 17. 79 meters set at this season’s indoor Nittany Lion Challenge. Lightfoot increased her best throw by 0.27 meters on Friday evening with a record breaking distance of 18.23 meters.
The PRs did not stop there, Zoey Whittington broke her 200M dash record by two-tenths of a second. Whittington finished in third with a time of 24.41. Mariame Conde also set a new personal best in the 600M. Conde’s new time of 1:35.48 breaks her previous record by 5.17 seconds.
