CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Pittsburgh track and field team looks to continue their outdoor campaign back in North Carolina at the Raleigh Relays, and will travel to the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville and CMU 5-Team Invitational at Carnegie Mellon University.
For the UNF Invitational, junior Haley Springman will be leading the way for the Panthers in the throwing events after earning fifth overall in the hammer and discus events at the UNC Relays. Taylor Slaney, Brooke Shasteen, Kalene Anderson and Kotar Yaszmin will also be representing for the women at the UNF Invitational.
On the men’s side, sophomore Andrew Wells will compete in the discus and hammer throw, while freshman Ethan Shalaway looks for a strong performance in the javelin. Wells, the school record holder in the discus and hammer throws, is hoping to break his rookie records this coming weekend.
Sophomore Paige Lumley is coming off her first collegiate win in the women’s triple jump and will attempt to capture her second consecutive victory at the Raleigh Relays. Other standout runners for the women include Taranisha Taylor, Zoey Whittington and Ashley Corum.
For the men, senior Reggie Steele had a strong showing in his first outdoor competition of the season at the UNC Relays. Steele claimed third in the 100 meter dash and fourth in both the triple jump and the long jump. Steele looks to lead the men to more success at the Raleigh Relays along with senior All-Americans Micah Murray, Carvin Nkanata and Brycen Spratling.
Pitt’s distance runners will be making the short trip to the CMU 5-Team Invitational. The Panthers will have seven male student athletes and 25 women participating at the CMU Invite.
Pitt track and field has a busy weekend ahead, while they prepare to compete in three track and field meets. The Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State, is set for this Friday and Saturday, March 28-29 with competition set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The throwers will also be competing this Friday and Saturday at the UNF Invite. The meet will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and will then conclude at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
