PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track and field teams will compete alongside more than 50 schools as part of the Virginia Challenge, hosted by Virginia at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va., Friday and Saturday.
A recap, along with results, will be posted to following each day’s events.
Live results will be available via, and highlights will be shared through @Pitt_TF_XC on Twitter and Instagram. ACC Network Extra, available via the WatchESPN app, will live stream the meet Friday night only, starting at 7 p.m. ET.
Pitt will begin Friday’s schedule with the triple jump set for 11:30 a.m., and will finish with the women’s 10,000m at 9:20 p.m. On Saturday, the Panthers will start with the women’s 3000m steeplechase at 9 a.m., and will conclude with the men’s 5000m at approximately 10:33 p.m. A full schedule is available at
On the men’s side, student-athletes from six schools in the USTFCCCA Top 25 will compete, including No. 1 Florida, No. 5 Georgia, No. 9 Virginia, No. 15 Tennessee, No. 23 Virginia Tech and No. 24 Syracuse. For the women, the field includes five Top 25 schools: No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Georgia, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 17 Virginia Tech and No. 19 Miami.

Senior Desmond Palmer, junior Quadaisha Newkirk and freshman Drew Glick posted wins for Pitt at the Louisville Invitational Saturday at Cardinal Park.
Palmer had a sub-13.80 mark in the men’s 110m hurdles for the second time this season, winning the event at 13.79 seconds. Palmer’s top performance of 13.75 at the Pepsi Florida Relays (April 1) is tied for 12th in the nation and is second in the ACC.
Newkirk claimed the women’s 400m hurdles, earning a personal record time of 59.48. Her mark placed her among the top seven times in ACC competition.
Glick recorded the first win of his young career in the men’s 800m with an outdoor personal best time of 1:53.35. A fraction of a second behind his teammate was Nate Sloan, coming in second in a tough tactical race at 1:53.47.

The Panthers will be spread across three states at three meets: Penn Relays (April 27-29), Ashland Open (April 28-29) and University at Buffalo Invitational (April 29).
