UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Pitt cross country finished third in both the men's and women's team standings at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State on Friday evening. Cullen Davis led the men and Dee Dee Adams was the top finisher on the women's side for the Panthers.
The Pitt men finished with 58 team points trailing Bucknell (33 points) and Penn State B (39). The women's field was not quite as closely contested with Penn State winning the team title with 15 points, followed by Bucknell (60) and Pitt (84).
Davis was the top finisher for the Panthers, finishing the 5.2-mile course in 26:37 and earning sixth place overall. It was the second consecutive week in which the junior has earned a top-10 placing as he was also eighth at the season-opening Duquesne Duals two weeks ago.
Following Davis was Michael Runco in eighth (26:48), Rich Addison in 13th (27:06) and Luke Swomley in 17th (27:23). That quartet was also the lead four for the Panthers at Duquesne, maintaining some consistency among the largely veteran group.
On the women's side, the rookie Adams took 14th place with her six-kilometer time of 22:12. Morgan Perry also maintained her position as the Panthers' number-two runner this fall with a 16th-place finish overall, crossing the line in 22:19.
After Hillary Boxheimer's 21st-place finish, the Panthers found themselves bunched up. Karli O'Neill (22:51), Paige Anderson (23:05), Stephanie Powers (23:08) and Cayla Del Piano( 23:16) completed the top seven
Pitt will return to action next weekend at the St. Vincent Invitational on Sept. 21 in Latrobe, Pa. Races begin at 10 a.m.
