LATROBE, Pa. -- Rachel Brown claimed the individual victory and Pitt women's cross country placed second in the team standings at the St. Vincent Invitational in Latrobe, Pa., on Saturday morning. The sophomore completed the five-kilometer course in 18:53.8 for her first career win.
Pitt earned a top-three finish for the second consecutive meet, totaling 45 points on Saturday at St. Vincent College. Oberlin College took the team title with 29 points, while St. Vincent was third in the 10-team field with 82 points.
Brown led all runners and was the only competitor to finish in under 19 minutes. She was not the only Panther to place among the top five, however. Alexandra Cady was fifth in 19:40.3. Erin Moss (20:25.5) and Kathryn Born (20:48.9) placed 10th and 12th, respectively.
The St. Vincent Invite gave the Panthers an opportunity to showcase some of its less familiar runners. Rounding out Pitt's top seven were Sarah Kochinsky (17th, 21:15.7), Natalie Vidacs (19th, 21:17.3) and Kelsey Coates (20th, 21:18.7).
Pitt sent just one male runner to the meet. Matt Dallago placed 13th overall in his first race of the year, finishing the 8K course in 28:43.5.
Pitt will return to action on Oct. 4 for the Notre Dame Invite in South Bend, Ind.
