SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Morgan Perry and Michael Runco led Pitt cross country as the Panthers competed at the 58th Annual Notre Dame Invitational at South Bend, Ind., on Friday afternoon. The men's squad earned an 11th-place finish, while the women were 10th in the team standings.
The Pitt men were 11th in a field of 23 teams in the Gold Race with 282 points. Grand Valley State walked away with the team trophy after finishing with 40 points. The women were 10th out of 26 teams, tallying 306 points. Taking the women's team title was Southern Illinois with 52 points.
For the fourth time in as many meets, a different runner led the Pitt women as Perry took the team's top spot. The junior finished 37th overall in the Gold Race with a five-kilometer time of 18:33.6. Rachel Brown, who won the St. Vincent Invitational in her last competition, placed 49th overall in 18:45.3.
The Panthers placed each of their top five finishers in the top 100. Hillary Boxheimer ended her day 53rd overall (18:46.8), followed by Dee Dee Adams in 78th (19:06.1) and Alexandra Cady in 94th (19:15.8).
The men's team also placed its top five in the field's leading 100. Runco took Pitt's top spot with a five-mile time of 26:13.1. The time earned him 26th overall, while Rich Addison trailed him in 36th with a time of 26:26.1.
Rounding out the top five for the men were Cullen Davis in 58th (26:50.0), Wes Roberts in 82nd (27:03.1) and Luke Swomely in 100th (27:23.3). Through three meets this season in which Pitt fielded a full team, Addison, Runco, Davis and Swomley have each placed among the top five for the Panthers.
Next on the agenda for Pitt cross country is the CMU Invitational, set for Oct. 12 in Pittsburgh.
