TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Pitt men's cross country team highlighted the day for the Panthers as they finished fifth in the white race and Cullen Davis led the squad in fourth individually at the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday afternoon. Hillary Boxheimer was the top finisher on the women's side, as the team took a 12th-place finish.
Davis was one of three Panthers to finish in the top 20 individually as he, Michael Runco and Rich Addison continued their streak as the team's leading trio this fall. Davis took fourth with an eight-kilometer time of 24:48.85. Runco placed 18th (25:21.86) and Addison ultimately finished 20th (25:26.25).
Davis' time was nearly two minutes faster than his previous 8K time this fall. The junior had previously run 26:34.8 at the season-opening Duquesne Duals, the only other meet this season in which he competed at eight kilometers.
On the women's side, Boxheimer became the first Panther to lead the Panthers in more than one race this season. The sophomore kicked off the season as the team's top finisher at Duquesne, then repeated the achievement on Saturday with a 42nd-place finish in Terre Haute at the LaVern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course. Boxheimer crossed the line in 21:59.38.
Pitt finished fifth in the men's team's standings with 201 points. Ohio took the team title in the field of 20 squads, totaling 99 points, while UNC Greensboro's Paul Chelimo earned the individual title in 24:13.25. The Pitt women totaled 413 points for 12th in the field of 35 teams. Cal won both the team and individual trophies with 105 points and a top finish from Kelsey Santisteban in 20:18.45.
The Panthers also competed with a limited squad in the open races. Ben Kisely was 75th (26:59.12) in the men's race, while Audrey Burger led the women in 46th (23:12.83).
When Pitt competes next it will be in its first-ever ACC Championships. The conference meet is set for Nov. 1 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
