Cross Country Returns From Big East Championships

KENOSHA, Wis.—Pitt’s men’s and women’s cross country teams turn in strong performances, as the Panthers competed in the 2009 Big East Championships, this morning, held at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course. The men placed 11th, while the women finished 16th overall.

Recording an overall time of 2:17:10, the men averaged a split of 27.26. Finishing first for the Panthers was junior Joshua Christopher, who placed in the top 50.

Next, freshmen Vinnie DePalma and Chase Broussard took 64th and 67th, while senior Kyle Kaminski and sophomore Gregory Kareis rounded out the top 70.

Senior Sam Weiser and Andrew Cerrito were the final Panthers to cross the finish line, placing 75th and 76th overall.

Pitt’s women recorded and average time of 26:03, but were led by sophomore Miya Johnson with a time of 24.35.

Crossing the finish line next for the Panthers was freshman Alyssa Kunkel.

Junior Heather Calisto, senior Emily Setlock and sophomore Rachel Hess turned in performance just over 26th minutes, while sophomore Rachel Erny and freshman Emily Barno rounded out the Panthers, placing 110 and 111 overall.
